Our History

1988
Founded

After over 35 years in the steel industry, from slitter operator to Vice President of Sales, John Scott founded Scott Steel LLC in Troy, Ohio, in 2008. The company began in John’s home office, where he started as a steel broker.

John and his wife, Patti, performed all the operations of the company, including purchasing, receiving and even making deliveries for a select group of customers. A few years later, John’s son, Aaron, joined him, and they moved to a larger, leased office space across town.

2000
Expanded

The business expanded quickly, with customer service being the key to its success. “You have to take care of your customers” is often heard in conversations within the Scott Steel meetings.

2013
Continued Growth

In 2013, John and Aaron purchased riverfront property in Piqua, Ohio, for a corporate office and warehouse. At that time, they were housing 4,500 tons of raw material.

Since then, Scott Steel has grown to maintain 12,000 tons of raw inventory in an attempt to carry each gauge, type and grade of steel their customers may need. With nearly 50 employees, capabilities now include steel slitting, steel edge conditioning, steel sheeting and blanking, and toll processing of steel.

2023
The Future

In 2023, the company continued to expand with the opening of Scott Steel Dayton, a 50,000-square-foot facility, to increase processing and production by up to 200%.

We’re Growing! We’re Hiring!

There’s an energy here you can’t find elsewhere.

“Scott Steel is not just a job to me — it is my lifelong career. I can honestly say that I love my job, and I have amazing peers. Scott Steel is an all-around great place to work.”
